Field entry 05 · Search engineFull-text and meaning search in one engine
Fig. 1 is a real search.
Type into it.

A real search engine, built into what you make.

      01forgives typos

      Entry 01

      Forgives typos

People type fast and spell the way words sound. Search can fix the word and tell them what it searched for, or offer the fix and let them choose, so nobody hits an empty page for one wrong letter.

      • Smart, always correct, only suggest or off
      • Names that sound alike can match, on the columns you pick
      • "Showing results for" when it corrects, "Did you mean" when it offers

Fig. 2. The same search under each Typos setting. Edit the words to try your own.

      02synonyms

      Entry 02

      Knows your words

Your shoppers say sneakers, your table says shoes. Add synonyms that work one way or both ways, including words that come in pairs, like "new york".

      • One way (raincoat finds jacket) or both ways (sneakers and shoes)
      • Multi-word synonyms, like "dry sack" and "dry bag"
      • Ideas learned from real searches, which you approve one by one

        03words become filters

        Entry 03

        Turns words into filters

"red shoes under 150" is three filters, not three words. Search reads the colour, the category and the price, then shows filters with counts beside the results.

        • Filter values and prices read straight from the words, once you switch it on in Settings
        • Filters with counts: ranges, dates and "any of" groups
        • Sort presets visitors can pick, like price low to high or newest first
        • Pick which columns to search in, filter by and show in results

        04rules and ranking

        Entry 04

        Rules and ranking you control

Decide what comes first. Rules change the results for the searches you pick, and ranking decides the order for everything else.

        • Seven rules: pin, boost, bury, hide, filter, rewrite, redirect
        • Match is exactly, contains, starts with or a pattern, with date windows
        • Ranking by field weights, popular first, what visitors like, newer results and tie-breakers

        05meaning search

        Entry 05

        Finds what they meant

Some searches share no words with the right answer. Meaning search finds results by what the words mean, and blends them with the word matches into one result list.

        • Full-text and meaning in one result list, not two searches

        06suggestions and learning

        Entry 06

        Suggests, then learns

Suggestions appear as people type. Behind the box, search records what was shown and clicked, and which searches found nothing, so you know what to fix next.

        • Results and suggestions as you type, and popular searches you approve
        • "People also searched", off until you switch it on
        • Learns from what was shown and clicked, and from the conversions your page reports

        07safe for visitors

        Entry 07

Safe for visitors, across many tables

A person's row rules apply to the results, the counts and the suggestions. A page only searches the tables its search box names, up to 5 tables in one box.

        • Row rules hold for results, counts and suggestions
        • Up to 5 tables in one search box
        • Matched words highlighted, snippets from long text and similar items for any row
        • Near-duplicate results removed
